STUDIO VISIT
Location: KYSTEN
Date: 29.09.2022

Liv Bangsund is a visual artist born in Tromsø. She uses her knowledge of former northern Norwegian sustainable societies were organized as inspiration for her art projects.

She develops projects where everyday activism, climate change, urban development and human relations are key elements. Through active participation and untraditional use of materials, she explores how art can contribute to new knowledge production in society.

Since the start in 2014, she has been project manager for Tromsø Folkekjøkken. (Tromsø Peoples Kitchen)
Tromsø Folkekjøkken is a site-specific participant based art project highly relevant today. She investigate art in public spaces and urban development and participate in art projects where she create events where the public is invited to participate.

Traditional northern Norwegian values such as cooperation and friendship across social, cultural and age differences are part of the philosophy.
In her work, she focus on how art can contribute to knowledge production in society and explore how alternative structures can operate in parallel with a capitalist system – a form of constructive resistance that works from the inside, and is productive instead of critical.

Tromsø Folkekjøkkens solution to this problem is to create social meeting places where residents can discuss and learn more about food waste, while at the same time helping to make and eat food that would otherwise have been thrown away.

Her latest work involve the establishment of Kvensk artist union and the Kvenbiennalen in Vadsø, Finnmark. Kvener is an ethnic, religious and/or linguistic minority with long-standing ties i Norway. Kvens/Norwegian Finns, Jews, Forest Finns, Roma and Romani/Tater people have national minority status in Norway.
