Finn Andrian Jorkjen & Høstutstillingen

Finn Adrian Jorkjen will present Høstutstillingen/the Fall Exhibition at Kunstnernes Hus in Oslo, Saturday 19.09 at 17.00, followed by a view of the exhibiton.

Finn Adrian Jorkjen is an Oslo-based artist working primarily with performance, text, and video. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Art in Oslo (KHiO) in 2020, following a degree from the Trondheim Academy of Fine Art (NTNU) in 2015. Jorkjen has presented his work across Norway, with exhibitions and performances at Kunstsilo, the Hamar International Performance Festival, Heimdal Kunstforening, and Ravnedans. At the 2022 Autumn Exhibition (Høstutstillingen), he was awarded the Norwegian Art Societies’ Debutant Prize for his performance ""Hvordan det går"". He is also a member of the performance duo Koppen & Jorkjen.

Jorkjen uses his personal experiences of otherness and desire as the fundamental starting point of his practice. His work deals with complex issues surrounding language, identity, and mass media. He is particularly interested in the intersection of the private and the public, the mechanisms of attention economy, and how digital spaces actively shape and affect the body.

Jorkjen’s works most often take the form of self-written scores performed for live audiences or the camera. These performances frequently appropriate familiar cultural formats—such as game shows, guided tours, podcasts, and ecstatic rituals—recontextualizing them to shed light on contemporary societal tendencies. His approach is highly site-responsive and situation-sensitive, constantly negotiating tension and audience expectations. Working transdisciplinarily, Jorkjen compositionally weaves together verbal text, movement, clothing, video, and sound to achieve dynamic dramaturgical shifts. Across his practice, he samples, collects, and processes scraped data, text, and video drawn from personal and public archives, social media, and pop culture.

In his performances, Jorkjen intentionally stages himself in vulnerable situations to foster a sense of collective intimacy. His practice leans heavily into the emotional, driven by intense, ambivalent feelings. Humor plays a central role in his work, serving both as a survival strategy and a vital tool to carve out space for difficult topics.
