Fabian Ginsberg

In 2018, Fabian Ginsberg founded the collective “SdA – Strategies of Counterinsurgency,” which compares methods, images, and concepts from art and military theory to describe the transformation of the public sphere. The collective produces texts, images, videos, and actions. In addition, Fabian Ginsberg pursues an individual artistic practice that explores, across a wide range of media, the conditions of meaning-making, interpretation, and evaluation.

On SdA:
Counterinsurgency strategies refer to a body of theory and practice that has found its way from colonial military theory (e.g., David Galula) into the domestic policies of former colonial powers. For us, counterinsurgency strategies denote the neoliberal program of counterrevolution. We appropriated „Counterinsurgency strategies“ – SdA – as a program that situates art in relation to political, economic and military concepts. As an open discursive platform, SdA aims to learn and teach by forming concepts of a common field and developing tactics and strategies that are not absorbed into the counterrevolution. Artistic methods of formulation, modelling and conceptualization will be explored to understand their emancipatory and colonizing functions.
